The outcome of the process was not in doubt - all the conspirators were found guilty of treason and sentenced to death.

State traitors were expected to be executed, called "hanging, gutting and quartering." The horrific procedure was as follows: the condemned was first hanged, subjected to terrible torment, but not allowed to die in a noose, then, removed from the gallows, castrated, gutted, throwing the insides into the fire, quartered and beheaded.
